Hailed by The New York Times as a “potent and eloquent soloist”, flutist Jesse Schiffman Recently graduated with a Masters of Music degree from The Juilliard School. Since picking up his mother’s flute at the age of 11 after enrolling in the school band, it has taken him around the world from Berlin to Brazil.
AS A PERFORMER
Mr. Schiffman performs regularly with The Juilliard Orchestra, the Axiom Ensemble and the New Juilliard Ensemble, and throughout New York City with The Chelsea Symphony, the ART Symphony, Orchestra Insonica and the New York Chamber Virtuosi. He has performed under conductors including Kurt Masur, Christoph Eschenbach, David Robertston, Michael Tilson Thomas, Tan Dun, Bernard Haitink, and Lorin Maazel and Alan Gilbert. In 2007, 2008, and 2009 he performed alongside members of the New York Philharmonic, the MET Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra in benefit concerts in Carnegie Hall. In March of 2010 Mr. Schiffman performed as guest principal flutist with the Orquestra Sinfonica da Bahia in Salvador, Brazil.
An avid chamber musician, performances have taken him to the stages of Alice Tully Hall, the Society for Ethical Culture, Bargemusic, Symphony Space, and CAMI Hall. In the spring of 2009 Mr. Schiffman performed alongside musicians from The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for the Gala re-opening of Alice Tully Hall.

AS A TEACHER
Having been introduced to music through public school music programs, Mr. Schiffman is dedicated to community engagement and pedagogy. As a recipient of the Gluck Community Service Fellowship from The Juilliard School from 2008-2009 he gave performances in schools, hospitals and other community centers throughout New York City. Also a recipient of the Instrumental Music Program Fellowship from The Juilliard School, Mr. Schiffman has served as Flute Instructor at P.S. 7 since 2008.
In March 2010 he had the incredible opportunity to travel along with 8 other students from The Juilliard School to Salvador, Brazil. When not lying at the beach getting the best tan of his life, he taught, coached, and performed for the students enrolled in the state of Bahia’s free classical music program, “Neojiba”.
The following Summer Mr. Schiffman served as Principal Flute for the Inaugural Castleton Festival Orchestra under the musical direction of Lorin Maazel. Previous summers have been spent at the Sarasota Music Festival; The International Orchestral Institute Attergau, in Austria; the German-Scandinavian Youth Philharmonic, in Berlin; the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, in Colorado Springs; and The Orford Arts Centre in Quebec.
He received his Bachelors Degree of Music from the Manhattan School of Music and his Masters Degree of Music from The Juilliard School. He has studied with Anne Diener Zentner, Michael Parloff, Robert Langevin, and Carol Wincenc.
