Through the Windows & the Doors by Corbu
Jonathan Graves has been performing and studying music for nearly his entire life. He was selected to be a soloist in the Pittsburgh Boychoir at age 10 and began a long, intense schedule of performing and touring that would take him through the United States and Russia, as well as see him performing with the Samara Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Opera and singing the national anthem for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
When he wasn't playing hockey, Jonathan spent his teen years playing violin, french horn and piano. He studied jazz improvisation with the award-winning composer Thomas Massella and eventually majored in Vocal Performance at Indiana University, where he was taught by Grammy-nominated baritone Timothy Noble.
Unsure of his desire to devote himself to classical music, Jonathan picked up the guitar late in high school and started writing music that reflected what he listened to, like the psychedelic rock of early Smashing Pumpkins and the French electronic group Air. Since then, he has formed several bands that played sold-out headlining shows in his native Pittsburgh, recieved airplay on commercial radio stations and garnered major label attention. Jonathan writes, sings and plays in the electronic-rock project Corbu and can be found DJing around Brooklyn.
AS A TEACHER
Jonathan attempts to help his students navigate the path from having a vague idea of intent to becoming a fully functional singer, songwriter or producer. He believes that every musical vision is neccesarily unique, and tailors his instruction to the needs and goals of each individual student. He also offers rare, comprehensive insight into the process of making music from scratch; in addition to his experience playing keyboards, guitar, bass and drums, Jonathan has worked as an engineer in professional recording studios and specializes in Apple's Logic recording suite.
