I am drawn to and heavily influenced by the sounds we tend to overlook/overhear. The grunts, groans, aches, cries of pleasure, joy, and pain that this beautiful and crippled city makes each day have a profound effect on how we are shaping ourselves internally and externally. How can we distill these "noises" which are so personal and simultaneously social and re gift them? Does giving them focus change the way we hear them? How can we plow these personal experiences into our shared musical history and past?

I am influenced by Morton Feldman, Steve Reich, Muddy Waters, Led Zeppelin, Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, J.S. Bach, Chris Speed, John Zorn, Sylvie Courvoisier, Milford Graves, Mark Feldman, Erik Friedlander, Ernst Reijseger, Myra Melford, Marilyn Crispell, Iggy and the Stooges, Arvo Part, Iannis Xenakis, John Cage, Professor Longhair, Gygory Ligeti, Oliver Messiaen, Art Lande, George Crumb, Charles Mingus, Albert Ayler, Elliot Sharp, Elliot Carter, Washington Phillips, Bessie Smith, John Lee Hooker, John Coltrane...

Any great rock guitarist / group, acoustic bands like the David Grisman Quintet and Solas, beat producers like The Roots and Flying Lotus, the beauty of classical music, the depth of jazz guitar, breathtaking song writing like James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and Sufjan Stevens, the groove and tone of any Motown or Staxx era artists, the attitude of punk rock, the sensation of group improvisation and the voice of my wife.
